Attend four live, interactive sessions covering resume basics, including formatting, design, and storytelling. Sessions are mandatory, and no make-up dates are available.

After the four resume sessions have been completed, students have three weeks to craft and submit their documents for judging—submission date TBA.

The participants will submit their resumes anonymously, using an assigned participant number to ensure winners are chosen strictly by merit. Judges then select the top 25 submissions for the final mentorship round.

Tonya Sims is the founder of Bee Gracious Etiquette and a career and education columnist for the Harlem Community News. Her goal is to empower children, teens, and adults toward a bright and successful future. With a focus on career readiness, business etiquette, and personal development, Tonya is dedicated to helping people gain confidence in their voice, presence, and professional story.

You’ll work closely with an award-winning panel of professional resume writers (writers to be determined), who have years of experience coaching students and professionals.
The workshops cover resume basics, formatting, storytelling, and professional design. Attendance is mandatory to stay eligible for the contest; there are no make-up sessions. Workshop dates will be announced and emailed to all registered participants.

The challenge is open to all New York City high school students.
Yes! Attendance is mandatory for all workshops to remain eligible for the contest. There are no make-up sessions.
As high school students, we know your time is valuable and your schedules are demanding. Workshop dates will be determined by polling all registered participants to find a majority consensus and will be announced and emailed directly to everyone who signs up.
Workshops will be led by certified professional resume writers and career coaches (specific instructors to be determined).
There is no fee to participate in the NYC resume challenge. The program includes free workshops and access to the resume competition.
Participants have the chance to win a $300 grand prize, along with other awards and recognition for top submissions.
A panel of judges will review resumes, and the top 25 participants will receive personalized one-on-one coaching from professional resume writers before the final judging.
